Movie Night - True Blue

As part of our summer fundraising, we are having a movie night.

Friday 3rd February, starting at 7pm in Bay 2.

We'll be showing True Blue, which is one of the best rowing films out there.

Cost is $10 per ticket which includes a glass of the new ANA Pink Sparkling Wine.
There will be movie snacks for sale on the night which will also go towards the fundraising.

The bar will also be open.

Please rsvp if you can make it - we'd like to see as many people come along to support the night!
You may want to bring a bean bag or comfy chair with you if you have one.

Head of the Yarra
From our Presidential reporter in Melbourne - Tony Beech

The crew did really well given the event was almost cancelled after a deluge overnight and in the morning caused run-offs into the Yarra.

Much debris and logs and eddies and swirls called for the great skill from the cox, Helen. The crew's start was delayed an hour and they ended up 7th of the 14 in the Male Masters B/C section with a time of 34.40.55 mins which was a really good effort for ANA.

Head of the Yarra ANA Squad

The HoY website http://www.headoftheyarra.com/Results/HOY-2011-PostRaceMediaAlert.pdf
says:

The Yarra was today alive with rowers slogging it out against a heavy rain charged 8.6km course travelling from the city to Hawthorn Rowing Club. While 1737 competitors lined up to start, 1035 competitors in the early race categories had their events cancelled due to the torrential downpour that created turbulent conditions and danger from debris and the raging storm waters.

Following the delayed race start the 78 Crews in more highly experienced categories, who were scheduled to start later in the program, were able to take advantage of the change in the weather to provide a wonderful spectacle in the challenging conditions.

The Annual Yarra River tradition was able to continue despite the weather and disappointing cancellation of the events in the early part of the program.

Cheers - Tony

Avon Descent

Sunday 7 August 2011
Public from 11am to 6pm

It is going to be a great ask for volunteers, as on the same day there is a masters regatta held on the same day. I am looking towards our recreational rowers, all the rowers who are not involved in the masters regatta. Family members are welcomed and contributes towards the volunteer option levy.

ANA's commitment are as follows :-

Car Marshaling
Sale of Food
At the end to feed the "sweepers"

Looking at last year's requirements we would require for

Car Marshaling 12 (7.30 to 1pm) & 12 (12 Noon to 5PM) = Total 24
Sale of food 6 (8 am to 1pm) & 6 (12.30 to 5pm) = Total 12
Sweepers - 3 (5.00pm to 7.30pm) depending on the time the sweepers come in.

Would appreciate if you would state the time most suitable for you, selection being first come first served basis. If you are unable to come please also notify me to ease uncertainty of numbers in volunteering
