MURC Pennant Regatta - 21 June 2008
Unfortunately this regatta was back at Canning and it lived up to its reputation, putting on a show of truly sloppy water with the tide ripping in through the Canning Bridge only moderating slightly in the afternoon.
However, the crews put out and we saw some very solid rowing. Good performances from the sub junior combined quads, Racheal Whitelaw, Chris Morris, Robyn (as usual) Smith, Womens Masters Quad (ditto) and also some good placings in the other categories. Sorry if I haven't remembered all the winners.

RACING CREW SELECTIONS
We now have our coaching programme in place - all our coaches have been formally appointed to their roles and coaching times are being circulated shortly. Racing members should select the sessions and coach that best meet their racing objectives, and attend sessions frequently so coaches can learn and gauge where your fitness/skill levels lie.
Coaches and the captain(s) are charged with the responsibility of putting the best crews on the water that we have available at any time. If you make yourself available for a regatta, expect to be placed in a number of crews across the day. You will not always be placed in crews with people you would like to row with, but you're there because it's in ANA's interests to have you there. If you have a higher ROMS status than others in the crew, its usually because we want the others to learn and improve. (This happened very effectively in a number of cases at the Mettams last Sunday).
If you do want to row a particular crew combination, inform your coach no less than two weeks before the nominated regatta, so they have time to consider and enter it (and you have time to try it on the water).
Do not turn up at a regatta and seek to scratch yourself from a crew simply because you don't want to be in it. We will be seriously unimpressed, and you will probably harm your selection chances as the year progresses.
At the other end of the scale, if you want to row in better crews, then consistently turn up for training and gym sessions. (Remember Inputs + Process over time = Results).
It's likely that crew selections will become more settled towards the state championships as coaches and captains learn what combinations work better than others, who's improving etc.
So if you haven't got where you want to be just yet, stay focussed and do the work.

08 June 2008 Mettams (Shelley-RWA Head Race)
A glorious morning with light winds and clear blue skies was presented to our crews.
All boating went to plan and despite a last minute scratching of a double and our famous masters quad due to sickness the results speak for themselves.
WELL DONE ALL CREWS, a great days racing and some well earned points. Here are some pictures too.

31 May 2008 ANARC Pennant Regatta
- race draw available here and programme of events here
A time for us to shine
We mentioned weather mayhem for the Rowathon...
...nothing compared to the regatta that was, sadly, curtailed this weekand past.
Besides a few early splashes of lightning over the city skyline a beautifully flat Swan River beckoned the rowers and some sublime racing was admirably commentated by Laurie Anderson, despite several electrical interuptions.
The crews were well organised and racing went on with the efficiency of a well oiled machine.
11.30 saw our first squall approach. Crews rushed to shore and the proceedings were halted for a while to let the inclement precipitation pass by.
And what a show it produced, Ascot, Belmont and some unfortunate sub-station in Bayswater recieved many a jolt from the heavens, the latter plunging the clubrooms and sheds into darkness. Leaving only the light of the BBQ to eat by.
With an announcement due at 12.00 the captains gathered and decided that, with another front due in about an hour, it might be wise to tether the boats to their trailers and make for home.
And so the ANA regatta came to an end with about a third of the day racing completed. But good racing nevertheless.
Thanks to all who helped with course laying, toilet towing, tent raising, BBQing, food prepping, boat moving and general marshalling.
Onwards...

UWA to Maylands via Guildford Grammar School
- SEE THE PICTURES
Despite a threat of storms and general weather mayhem the event
went well and a hearty well done to all participants for a good, if long,
mornings row.
Thanks to all the patient stamping officials and ground crews for their efforts.
