Club News Check out the old news from - 2000,  2001 20022003200420052006

Unfortunately the site that hosted our old and much loved message board has shut up shop leaving us to find a new one.  Well, here it is.  You'll probably notice a few more ad's than on the old one but it should do the job.  Happy posting !

This year's 'Absolutely Amazing ANA Rowing Rally' will be held on Sunday the 21st October.  This is a recreational rowing event with participants also invited from other clubs.  Racing members will only be able to participate as part of a recreational crew.

The rally is only open to larger crews (quads, fours and eights).  We have many relatively new recreational rowers in the club this year, so this is a great opportunity to either acquire, freshen up or otherwise experience one of the ultimate joys of rowing - to be as one with other crewmembers to achieve a result (preferably a desired one!).  For those recreational members wanting to be in crews, James will be hosting some training sessions at 7.00am on Sundays commencing 7th October.  Ideal candidates would be people who have mastered fundamental sculling techniques, and are ready for a new experience!  It would be appreciated if other racing members and experienced recreational rowers could help him out.

Coxes ride free in this event so if any members are happy to cox, please contact James.

The rally is not an endurance event, but it will definitely help you if you can balance, back, turn, check, steer and generally control a large boat - hence the training sessions.  This is an event where observation, wits and skill will stand you in good stead to collect a delicious prize!

For more information, check out the event flyer or email James directly.

It's all over for the 2007 season and ANA has won the overall pennant for the first time since 1975 !!  Infact, we blitzed the field winning by a huge 382 points and also picked up the Veterans pennant for good measure.

That is a fantastic effort and congratulations to all the members who have raced throughout the year and also to the significant number of recreational members who have provided support at regattas, social functions and fundraisers.  Finally, well done to the committee for the hundreds (probably more likely thousands) of hours they have committed to the club this year.  This truly was a great club effort and yes, we will always be the winners of the first State Championships held on the Champion Lakes course !!

Check out this photo.  This is an arms only crew of  four Tasmanian wheel chair athletes (paraplegic) rowing a quad scull at Barrington.  After one of the crew members expressed a desire to row in something other than a single, the TRC arranged to purchase the quad (which had been sitting in a yard somewhere after being damaged) and donated it.  Dominic Monypenny covered the donation of seats and Kay Suter, Rik Bryan and John Koppleman contributed towards the technical know how to set the boat up.

The crew of  Bow Dominic Monypenny; 2 Annie Wells; 3 Julie Pearson; Str Malcolm Hall and Cox Callum Loh are showing some pretty impressive timing and blade control without the benefit of having their legs to assist with the balance.  Great story courtesy of Bob Blake and Jane Ratten.

Full results from yesterday's ANA head race can be found here.  It was a good day on the water for ANA with wins in the women's 8+ and the men's and women's quads along with a slick time by the men's senior 8+ putting them only 8 sec's behind the winning Swannies crew.

The latest status list for racing members can be found here.  Captain Helen has referenced the point score to the table linked to on the websites racing page to get the A, B, C, D grading and has coloured these up to make the split between grades easier to see.  If people are not on this list, or they have "FORM" next to any part of their name, they will need to fill in an RWA rego form asap.

Bayswater Council are offering 2 Scholarships of $1,200 each to assist individuals attain excellence in their chosen sport.  For more information, click here.

Just a reminder that the first regatta to be held on the new Champion lakes course will be taking place on Sunday the 29th April.  ANA needs crews to be entered and volunteers to help out on the day to make this event a success.  Download the event poster for more details and for crews wishing to enter, grab the entry form and get it back to JW asap.

It's on next Sunday the (not surprisingly) 1st of April and it's open to all club members, sculling course graduates and Challenge Cup rowers.  Join us for a leisurely row up to Olive Farm and back followed by a cooked breakfast at the clubrooms.  Click here to get the full details.  Entries must be in by Thursday the 29th March and you can also download the entry form here.

Finally, you can download the draw for Sunday's Challenge Cup here.  Note that there are separate tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet for the Mens and Womens draws.  You can also download the crew member list for each team here if you have any doubt of your crews name.

Don't forget to be down at the regatta for the crew briefing at 10am on Sunday.  First race at 10:30.  Good luck !!!

For Challenge Cup crews and coaches wanting more information about what to expect on regatta day, click here (.pdf format).

As mentioned below, the inaugural regatta on the new Champion Lakes course will be run on the 29th April.  It's going to be a big event that will also include kayaking and dragon boat racing.  It's important that as many crews as possible enter to race and as an added incentive, you don't have to be a registered racing member and there will be no race oar fees for this regatta !

Check out the order of events and for those crews who will be entering, you can down the regatta entry form.

The first regatta to be held on the purpose built Champion Lakes course will be run on Sunday, the 29th of April.  This event will have a big impact on competitive rowing in this state and Rowing WA are keen to showcase our sport to the general public.  On that note, they are hoping for all clubs to enter as many crews as possible and if you're not interested in racing but still want to be involved on the day, they need plenty of volunteers to help make the event run smoothly.

Check out the event poster or for more details (including the classes of boats racing on the day), click here.  Event nomination forms will be coming out shortly.

The Nationals are underway and this year ANA has 13 members representing the club including a minimum of 3 and up to 5 representing WA in the interstate races, depending on final crew make up.

To the left are the club members who have been training with Mike Quinn at Canning for nearly 6 Months.  From left to right they are Alex Hayes, Tim Philpott (UWABC), Brendan Longman, Helen O'Keefe, Cade Zulsdorf, Reece Grant, and Perron Franks (ECU).

Absent is Morag McCallum who is already in Victoria training with her new pair partner (Morag has been training at WAIS) while the U17 girls that were training with Roland Warren left later in the week.

This is the best representation ANA has had at the Nationals for a long time and the club wishes every rower the best in their racing.

Bunbury Rowing Club are once again hosting the South West Schools Head of the River regatta on Sunday the 25th March 2007 beginning at 9am.  The formula will remain the same as last year with events for: Single Sculls,  Double Sculls,  Coxed Quads and the eight event being the last race of the day.

This regatta is only open to Project Oarsome and Non Private School rowers.  For nominations (closing end of Feb) or any other information, please contact Jamie Jones on 0408 283 221.

First time out coaching a Challenge Cup crew and you're wondering where to start ?  Well, take a look at our 6 lesson plan to get you moving in the right direction.

Fear not, the Challenge Cup beginners regatta is back for 07 so get your crews ready to start training.  A lot more info will be coming through shortly but in the meantime, check out the full details of this years event and if you're really organised, you can even download the entry form.

For those who don't know, the Challenge Cup is the clubs major fundraiser for the year and also a source of new members.  We rely heavily on current members getting involved in the recruitment of crews and coaching them through to race day.  The regatta is open to people with little or no previous rowing experience who would like to give rowing a try.  Work, social and sporting groups get together to form crews of four people and are taken through five supervised training sessions, before racing in a knockout style regatta over 500m.

To all club members, please get involved and help continue the events success.  It's also a lot of fun coaching beginners crews into a real regatta so give it a go !

Rowing WA lost one of it's longest serving and most dedicated members with the passing of Berry Durston on Friday evening.  Most ANA members would know Berry from his time in the umpires dingy (and most would probably have been on the receiving end of one of his rockets !), but his loss will leave a large hole in the Administration of rowing in this state.

Berry was the current RWA Treasurer and was made a life member of the association in 1978.  He was also an internationally licensed regatta official who had officiated at Olympic level and was previously a member of the Australian Rowing Council and an Australian rowing team manager.  Berry also rowed at the highest level during his competitive career, representing Australia at the 1960 Olympic games and winning a Kings Cup with WA in that same year.

ANA benefited greatly from Berry's efforts.  He helped establish ANA at Bayswater and sourced funding to acquire the ten Hay sculls and for the initial running of learn to row programs at Bayswater in advance of the boatshed construction.  Berry helped source funding for the construction of the shed and the equipment loan fund and joint purchase programs have helped the club achieve many of its strategic goals.

A new page has been created specifically for racing information.  It has all the details for the upcoming season including an explanation of the new status system which is replacing the existing novice/maiden/etc categories, as well as the 2007 regatta schedule and details of what categories of boats will be racing at each regatta.  Most importantly, you can now download the RWA registration form and if you're not already registered and you're planning on racing this year, i'd do that sooner rather than later.

Clici here to access the new page.  There's also a link on the home page.

Regatta Dates for the 2007 season are now up on the Racing page.  They can also be downloaded as a .pdf for printing here.

Don't forget, ANA's summer wines are back with an extended range for '07.  Check out what's available and be quick to place your order !

Well done to the organising committee for running a fantastic 2006 Annual Dinner.  Everyone had a great night and a few of Privo's photos can be found here.
