Club News Check out the old news from - 2000,  2001 2002200320042005

To all past and present ANA members, the club wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year !!

Regatta Dates for the 2007 season are now up on the Membership page.

Don't forget, ANA's summer wines are back with an extended range for '07.  Check out what's available and be quick to place your order !

Well done to the organising committee for running a fantastic 2006 Annual Dinner.  Everyone had a great night and a few of Privo's photos can be found here.

Congratulations also to this years award winners:

Best Subjunior: Sam Templeton
Best Female Novice: Shona Robb
Best Male Novice: Josh Hicks
Best Female Maiden: Sharon Walton
Best Male Maiden: Tom Robertson
Best Junior: Helen O'Keefe
Best Veteran: Melissa Drew
Most Improved: Alex Hayes
Best Oarswoman: Morag McCallum
Best Club Person: Megan Phillips
Club Appreciation Award: Darryn Luck

Yep, the ANA Summer Wines are back for 07.  This time there's four wines to choose so there's no excuse for not finding one that you like !!  Click here for more details and when you're ready, download a copy of the order form here (Both doc's require Adobe Reader).

Full result are available here.

Full details are now available for the ANA Really Ripper Rowing Rally.  It's the last chance for the year to get out on the water with a large number of crews followed up by a cooked breakfast, so click here for all the info'.  For those wishing to enter, click here to download the entry form.

Those of you who have rowed this week will have noticed the large lidded container underneath the logbook in the shed (which of course everyone signs before and after each row!!).  Over the next few weeks we would like you to donate any gourmet preserves, non-perishable foods, condiments, gifts, wines, sauces - in fact, anything that you think would be an excellent contribution to the festive season.

A member of the ANA Social/Fundraising Committee will regularly collect items from the container, so don't be concerned that it never seems to get full! Please write your donation on the deposit slip provided. (You don't need to give your name - we just need to track what's deposited so we can track any stock 'shrinkage'). Towards the end of November, we will be creating prizes from these items for the MONSTER CHRISTMAS HAMPER, so give generously. When we sell tickets for the prizes, yours might win! All prizes will be drawn at the annual dinner, and all proceeds will go towards club funds for coaching and our ever-growing maintenance requirements.

Check out the Monster Hamper Poster for more information (requires Acrobat Reader).

The previously advertised Head Race is morphing more into a social row.  Details should be coming soon but in the meantime, keep this date free in your diary.

Click here to get the results from Saturday's Christ Church school boys time trial.

What keeps Captain Chris awake at night and which club members have been working hard to help him keep his sanity ?  Find out here.

Unfortunately, the Masters regatta due for the 21st October has been cancelled but instead, ANA will be holding a head race for Masters and Recreational crews on Saturday the 25th November.  The course will cover the return trip from Garret Rd Bridge to Guildford which is a total of 13km's.  More details coming soon.

Great result for ANA with us snatching the veteran pennant away from Bunbury on the final days racing of the year and finishing third overall in the points total.  Congratulations should also go to Bunbury for winning the Novice pennant, UWA for the Maidens and Swans for the Open and Overall pennants.

While there has been much comment lately on the condition of some of the boats in the shed, the simple fact remains that broken boats do not fix themselves.  Maintenance sessions will be held on Saturday the 7th and 14th of October starting at 9am.  There'll be a number of experienced members on hand to instruct people on basic maintenance techniques, so this is the time to get down the shed and learn a few tricks.

If everyone puts in a couple of hours work on the boats that they row or the oars that they use, we'll see a big improvement in the general level of equipment in the shed.  Please come down and help out the club on at least one of these days.

Congratulations to Helen for being awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to the mining industry.  Pretty damn impressive H.  While we're at it, a big well done also for recording the second best prognostic time in the weekend's on water time trial (and stitching up all the WAIS girls in the process !!).

Congratulations and well done to John Westall and Laurence Bourke who, along with ex’ club member Richard (Lambsy) Wheatcroft and Richard’s brother, recently completely the 50km Boston rowing marathon in the UK.  Apparently the race is mostly rowed through drainage channels which can become somewhat disorienting and as John mentioned on the message board, the hands took a hammering.  Great effort guys.

We haven't had one for a while (yes, the Captain is always a busy person), so click here for Chris' report for September.

Congratulations to ANA's Carol Sale (far right) who, along with her Bunbury team mates Jenny Bingham, Jenny Coote and Nici Cato, won gold in the Interstate Women's D Quad at the Australian Masters Rowing Championships held on Lake Nagambie from May 19th to 21st.

The Bunbury girls also went on to collect silver in the WA Interstate Women's 8+.

Great day out on the water for ANA with the men's veteran crew stroked by Golden taking out line honours in the Perth to Freo and christening the Harvey Nicholson for it's first win.  Also a good result for the novice guys who broke the one hour mark to come second and make it an ANA 1-2.  Great to see 5 eights out there in ANA colours as well as Dave Hogan in the single.  Full race times for all crews can be found here.

Can be downloaded here.

For all those people who have recently completed a sculling course, competed in the Challenge Cup or have been rowing for a while and want to give racing a go, there is now a development racing program in operation.  The official times are 6am Monday mornings and 9am Saturdays.  There are already keen participants in this group so finding a crew will not be a problem.

If you would like more information or want to pass on the details, they are:
Chris Morris (Racing development coach)
Mobile:  0409 083 645
Email:  chrisjrmorris@gmail.com

As you may have already seen on the message board, the committee has organised a comprehensive list of coaches to cater for all level of members from novice/beginner through to senior level for racing, as well as recreational rowers.  This represents a significant effort by not only the coaches, but also the organisers who have put the schedule together so please start to make use of these sessions and let's get on the water.  Full details of coaches and sessions can be downloaded in a word document here and they are also available on the Membership page.

A little late maybe, but those who organised the hugely successful April Fool's Day social row deserve congratulations.  Despite some iffy weather, it was a great day on the water with over 70 people taking part in the 8km return trip to Sandy Beach.  Some inspired creativity went into the on-water exercises courtesy of Margaret McHugh and Ian Hilton and on their return, the crews were treated to a fantastic cooked breakfast courtesy of Chris Morris and his squad of cooks who made the baine-marie groan under the weight of food for everyone.

Well done also to Glyn and Chris Hayes who managed to put together a fleet of quads for the 14 crews, Darren for getting the speedies into shape and to the myriad vets and other volunteers who fetched, carried and cleaned on the morning.  Finally, a huge well done to Kym who organised the promotion of the event and tirelessly chased up crews and individuals in the lead up to the row.  The organisation on the day was excellent and it was an important follow up to the Challenge Cup with a great time being had by all.

Chris' captain's report for April can be viewed here.

Rowing WA are looking to run a level 1 coaching course at Canning Bridge on Saturday 6th May.  Cost will be approx $130-00 per head inclusive of manuals, meals, etc.  Those interested in doing the course should contact Pierre on 9364 3905 or via email executiveofficer@rowingwa.asn.au

Even though it's now autumn, the last of ANA's summer wines will be available until the end of April.  We have about a dozen cases each of the Scullers White and Maiden Red still available, but the Chardonnay sadly is all gone.  To secure one of the last of these great wines, download an order form now.

ANA has picked up another addition to the fleet in the form of an ex' WAIS Sykes pair/double.  This boat will fill the gap in the lightweight men's/heavyweight women's range which in the past has meant the girls going to the nationals having to compete in HW men's boats.

If you haven't rowed in the Perth to Freo at least once, you don't know what you're missing out on.  Not just a race, an adventure !  This year's race is on Sunday the 7th of May.  Either get an eight together or brave the 16km's on your own in a single scull.  For more details, click here.

Penrhos College are hosting an evening with world and Olympic champion James Tomkins on Friday the 28th of April.  Cost is $10 per head which includes a light supper and the evening will run from 7 to 9pm.  For more information contact Helen Jones on 9451 3396 or via email anglerholdings@iinet.net.au (please quote James Tomkins in the subject line).

Congratulations to Christ Church on another HOTR 1st VIII victory, their 4th in 5 years.  Christ Church won in the very quick time of 5.57.8 (apparently the first time the 6min barrier has been broken), with Trinity hot on their heels in 5.59.4 and Aquinas in third place with 6.01.2.  Full results from the regatta includ
