Catch up on what's happening or check out the old news from - 2000,  2001 200220032004

Congratulations to all those who helped out with the successful running of this years annual dinner.  Check out the Captain's report below for those who were responsible for putting on a great night.

Winners of awards for 2005 were as follows:

Can be downloaded here.

ANA is pleased to announce the availability of its SUMMER WINES - a collection of three new top wines that promise to make you the most popular guest at a party and your BBQ's 'must attend' events by friends, work colleagues and family.  Perhaps best of all however, ANA club will make no less than a mega 30% profit on the sale price of each case!

Click here to download an order form and find out more about these great wines (requires Adode Acrobat reader).

Orders placed up to the 15th December will be available for pre-Christmas delivery. You also have the choice of collecting your wine from La Vigna Wine merchants in North Perth, or for $5 per case, they can be delivered to your door within the Perth metro area.

Can be downloaded here.

The ANA Rowing Club will be holding its annual dinner on Saturday 26th November, 2005.  This is a great chance for the whole club (and partners / friends) to get together and celebrate another year.  Dinner is included in the ticket price (there will be vegetarian dishes for those who want them) and drinks are available from the bar (the venue is not BYO).

Official club awards will be presented (best oarsperson, etc...) as well as some humorous awards (big girls blouse, etc...) and some member nominated awards where you, the member, get to nominate people who you think are worthy of an award (whether for serious hard work and good service, or for something silly). There will also be a guest speaker (speeches will be reasonably short to allow more time for revelry) and a special video footage of some of the year's events (other footage will be playing throughout the night).  This is a great opportunity to hang out with your rowing friends in a social environment and to talk to other members of the club that you don't normally get to see. Bring your crew, or come down and meet a whole new crew. At least you know you have something in common to start a conversation about - after all spit posts and motor boats get to everyone at some stage!

Price:     $40 per ticket (members / partners / non members, one price fits all. Includes dinner, desert and tea/coffee plus all entertainment.
Venue:    Inglewood Soccer Club, Inglewood.
Time:      6:30pm for 7:00pm.  Tickets and posters say 7pm but dinner will be served no later than 7:30, so come down a bit earlier if you want more time to
mingle before the formal start of the evening.  Formal part ends before 9:30pm.
Dress:     Smart casual.  Basically you can get away with anything, but it would be nice if you managed to wear something clean and neat - no old zooties!!
RSVP:     13th November.

In order to finalise numbers for catering, no more tickets will be sold after the 13th November, so don't leave it too late.  Tickets are available from Sharon Walton (sculling course), Maree Hemming, Siok Cheng (Sunday breakfasts) and Helen.  Feel free to email Helen and she will arrange to send one to you or leave it at the shed for you (after collecting payment of course).

For more info, you can download the flyer here (requires Adobe Acrobat reader).

Full results from the weekend's time trial can be found here.

A number of ANA members have just returned from the Australian Masters games and have done the club proud with an impressive haul of medals.

Gold:

Silver:

Bronze:

To complete the haul, Stuart Ridgeway combining in a Westies 8+ also picked up gold in the MA8+ 3.18, silver in the MC8+ 3.04 and bronze in the MB8+ 3.12 while Claire Jansen picked up medals in a swag of events as a decidedly young master's coxwain.  Nick Bretland also deserves a mention for showing great talent in the area of regatta logistics and dedication to getting crews organised and boated, while the club is indebted to Riverside Rowing Club in Adelaide for the loan of numerous boats and oars.

Finally, nice job by James Carpenter in making sure that everyone knew which was the ANA bus (click on the picture).  masters bus 05.jpg (108458 bytes)

Well done everyone.

It's been quite a while since the last update, but work has been moving along.  Infact, the course itself is almost to it's full length.   Click here for a look at a couple of the latest pictures from the site.

This year to be held on Saturday the 26th November.  More details shortly.

Unfortunately due to a general lack of interest, this years Veteran's regatta which was due to be held on the 22nd of October has been cancelled.  Apologies to anyone who was intending to enter, but we just can't guess who was going to turn up and organise accordingly.  We will be looking to hold the event again next year.

Want to know what you'll be doing with your weekends for the next year? (if you're a racing member that is).  Then take a look here.

The Annual General Meeting of Rowing WA will be held at The Canning Club Rooms on Friday 25th November at 6-30pm.  The official notice of the meeting can be found here.  Please give serious consideration to the nomination process as there are several positions on the executive that are open and the more members we can get along, the better.

If you're thinking about trying out for a state team in 2006, you'd better read this policy pronto.

Can be found here.

vet poster 05.jpg (131084 bytes) Apologies but this event has now been cancelled due to a lack of interest.

Just incase you missed it above, the ANA veterans regatta is on Saturday the 22nd of October.  This is a great opportunity for all recreational rowers in WA to get our there and support veterans rowing, without having to be a registered racing member.  We'd love to see some people come out of retirement for the day !!

Click on the flyer or see above for more details.

The next Level 1 coaching course will be held on Saturday the 8th October at RWA headquarters at Canning Bridge.  Their are only 25 places available so if you're interested, download the application form and get it through to RWA with your money asap.

The points table after the weekend's championship regatta is as follows:

ANA 8903
Bunbury 14747
Curtin 1603
ECU 1733
Fremantle 3243
Murdoch 571
Swans 10615
UWA 5554
Wests 5346

Bunbury look to have the Championship in their keeping which is a major credit to their club given that it's hard enough not being located down at Canning, let along 200k's south of Perth.  However, there are still some 7000 odd points available at the state sprint regatta which could have a big bearing on second place overall and the pennants for Open, Novice and Veterans.

The State Championships provided plenty of wild weather on the weekend and saw some excellent results for ANA rowers.  Helen lead the charge with wins in the women's maiden and junior singles, along with a third in the open single.  The maiden single was an ANA trifecta with Morag and Catherine taking second and third places, while Helen's victory in the junior single saw her taking the win over some previous Australian representatives and in the open single, finishing third behind two world champions.  To cap off a great weekend, she stroked the maiden quad to victory along with Robin, Michele and Carol.

Melissa and Sharon picked up a win in the maiden pair and then teamed up with Alex and Morag to win the coxless maiden four.  On Sunday, they teamed up with Robin and Claire to bring home the veteran four title as well as finishing second in the junior four with Morag and Claire.

The men were saved from being completely blitzed by the girls squad thanks to John, Chris, Tony and Glyn's win in the veteran quad who in very Swannies type fashion, turned up for the Championships after being unseen all year and made their one race count.  There were also wins for the men's novice quad of Guy, Zonko, JW and John along with wins in the novice and subjunior singles and a host of second places in championship events throughout the weekend.

All in all, a great effort by everyone who attended.  For a full list of all race results, click here.

The full draw for both days of this weekend's State Championships can be downloaded here.

Full results from yesterday's Curtin regatta can be found here.

Check out the full results from the weekend's Bunbury regatta and Eaton head race.

Full results are available here.

Please everyone put the following date in your diaries - Tuesday the 23rd of this month for another great Curry Night.  The last one was a huge success with the clubroom bursting at the seems with people and yummy curries. Posters will be going up around the club this Sunday for more details.

Volunteers for providing curries please contact Kym by email and let her know if you are able to bring a curry, a rice cooker or gas camping cook top.

Cade's lightweight quad placed 5th in the A final at the U23 world championships. The guys finished in 6:34 (must've been ugly conditions) with the Italians winning in 6:24. They had been holding down 4th at the 1500 but were passed by Denmark in the last 500.  Well done guys for representing Aus' at the world champs and making the A final.  That's the man himself below in the stroke seat.

Full results from yesterday's regatta available here.

In the lead up to the U23 World Championships, Cade's lightweight men's quad have been competing at Lucerne.  In their heat, Cade's crew finished third out of three with their heat being 4 sec's quicker than the other.  Their time of 6:22:44 put them 5th fastest out of 7 crews, but only 0.1 sec's behind the 4th fastest Belgiums and 1.1 secs behind the 3rd fastest Swiss.  Fastest time went to the Italians in 6:15:02.

The crew made good on their promise to go faster in the repechage with them rowing a 6:06:59.  Unfortunately, it wasn't quick enough to get them into the final, although they only missed a spot by less than a second.  The final was won by Italy in 6:02.  Great effort by the guys considering they were up against the senior crews from the other countries. Well done.

For once the weather was kind and Saturday's regatta went off without a hitch.  This was due in no small part to all the club members who helped out throughout the day and those who helped with the setup and packing up at the finish.  Special well done to Glyn, JW, Graham Pratt, Rob Thomas, Dalton Jr & Sr and Denys for laying down the course on Friday arvo and packing it up again once the racing was over.  Also a top effort by Siok and the catering group as well as Maree and Kay for packing up at the end of the day.  The club received a 10/10 for the regatta thanks to everybody's efforts.

Full results from the regatta can be found here and there's also a few photos from the days racing.

For those looking to order one the polar fleece tops that Kym has mentioned on the message board, you can find the order form (complete with pictures) here

The next level 1 coaching course will be run on Sunday the 26th July.  This will be the first in the new NCAS coaching structure which has now been completed up to level 2.  As RWA can only cater for 30 places on a course and it has been some time since the last one, demand will be high.  The application form can be downloaded here.

Results from the schoolgirl regatta held on the 21st May can be found here.

We currently have beanie's, caps, some men's rugby jumpers and some women's black 3/4 length tops.  Orders can be taken if we don't have your size.  We are also proposing to do some new items, but we need to gauge your interest. Mens black polar fleece jumpers $35
Men's black shorts $20
Women's black polar fleece jumpers $35
Women's white short sleeved t-shirt with collar $25
Women's black 3/4 length yoga pant - price to be confirmed

All items will be embroidered with the ANA logo. We can't afford to order new things unless we know people will buy them so please get behind this and let Kym know which of these sounds good to you.

Congrat's to the ANA crews who completed last weekend's Perth to Freo race.  With 6 eights and several scullers entered this year, we were certainly well represented.  We didn't attain any major prize unfortunately, but if they were giving out 1st FN8+, 1st MJ8+ and 1st and Last Male crew to cross the line we would have nailed it.

It was superb to see so many ANA black & whites on the water in one hit on such a 'beautiful' day and well done to the Bendigo lads who joined us.  The conditions were a bit of an eye opener (nice bit of surfing being done out on Melville Water by our eight!) and we hope to see you guys back next year with a full crew.  Thanks also to UWA for the loan of the Goland 8+.

Congratulations to ANA's resident energizer bunny Cade Zulsdorf for being selected into the Australian U23 Men's lightweight quad which will compete in Amsterdam around the 22nd-24th July.  Definitely a deserving reward for Cade after years of hard work on the water and in the gym and also great for the club with this following on from Rhys' national representation last year.  Unfortunately Rhys and Tom both missed out this year round with a second in the double and fifth in the four respectively at the selection trials.  The complete list of WA rowers selected into Australian Crews is as follows:

Australian Senior Team to compete at the World Championships in GIFU Japan.

Amber Bradley - Women's Double Scull

James Gatti and Jeremy Stephenson -Men's Coxless Four

Sarah Outhwaite and Natalie Bale - Women's Eight

Ben Cureton - Men's L/W Coxless Four

Todd Skipworth and Ross Brown - Men's L/W Pair

Australian Under 23 team to contest the World Under 23 Titles in Amsterdam.

Brenton Jenke and Stephen Fletcher - Men's Eight

Cade Zulsdorf - L/W men's Quad

David Kelly -Men's Quad

Annika Naughton - Women's Coxless Four

Jessica Huston - Women's L/W Double Scull

Jason Lane (WAIS Coach) has been appointed coach of Men's Under 23 Quad Scull and also The men's open L/W Double.  Both of these crews will be based in Perth for their training.

Times for all crews from Saturday's 6.5km Guildford to Garrett Rd race can be found here.

Hot on the heels of the Challenge Cup, the Olive Farm social row was an opportunity for those crews to get back on the water for another outing and experience rowing in an eight and visiting new parts of the river.  A good turnout of approximately 40 Challenge Cuppers and recreational members turned up for the 10k round trip to Olive Farm and back and from all accounts, everyone had a great time and felt they deserved the big breakfast at the finish !

Well done to Kym and Michelle for organising everything,  JW & Chris H for distributing the food and booze, Siok, Richard, Laurie Skinner and Graham M for the BBQ and cleaning.  Good job by Carol, Helen, Kay, Emma, David H and Dougall for squeezing themselves into the cox's seats and Jo and Megan for coaching from the speedy and also well done to those who rocked up early and helped set up.

Can be found here.

It was of course Sharon Tiainen who coached both crews to victory in the Challenge Cup and not Teresa (although she did make the women's final !) as previously mentioned below.

There were plenty of photos taken on the day with a mixture of club member and crew shots on the photos page which can be viewed here.

Professional photos were also taken of every crew racing on the day and they are available for viewing and purchase from the Outdoor Shots website.

Better late than never, a quick roundup of this years Challenge Cup is definitely in order.  Once again there was a big field with 25 men's crews and 23 women's crews entered for the tenth running of this event and plenty of pre regatta bragging was going on as each crew went through the paces in their 5 training sessions.

Race day dawned with strong headwinds for most of the day making for slow conditions out on the course.  This certainly rewarded those crews who managed to stay composed in the rough water.  At one point, some races were taking over 5 minutes to complete the 500m course and there were some incredible near misses at the finish line as at least more than one crew attempted to row under the finishing jetty.  The finish line judges of Tony, JW and Denys on the microphone did a great job all day but no one ever told them they've be in danger from kamikaze crews !  Up at the start line, Catherine and Amanda did a brilliant job getting the crews lined up and started with only the odd major 'moment'.

For the first time in a few years, the men's crews outnumbered the women and competition was definitely hot amongst the guys.  As the day went on, the races got faster and faster with the final coming down to a two crew race between Sharon Tiainen's "Crab Catchers"  and "Cool Runnings" coached by none other than Olympic Silver medalist, Glen Loftus.  However, despite being fastest in their semi final, Cool Runnings were unable to match the pace of the Crab Catchers who saved their best for last and took out the final by over a boat length in the fastest time of the day of 2m35s into a raging headwind.

In the women's final, it was Sharon once again as coach of the "ARC Devils" up against Teresa Muscatello's "Sink Or Swim, We Will Win" and the ARC Devils made it two from two for ARC Energy by taking out the women's final in a time of 3m15s to add to their men's crews victory.

Despite running a bit late at the finish, it was a great day with everything running (almost !) smoothly despite the rough conditions out on the water.  Once again, a huge number of club members put in many hours organising the event and helping out on the day and at the risk of forgetting someone (and apologies if I do !), the following people really do deserve a mention.

Thanks to Siok for once again doing a fantastic job of running the catering and ably assisted by Graham M, Laurie S, Stuart R, James C, Carol, Miranda, Tony B, Margaret M, Melissa and Jill.

Well done to the boat marshals who worked hard throughout the day getting the crews turned around on shore and heading back up to the start.  Glyn once again took on the nightmare job of main shore marshal with help from Tony I, Ian H, Dave S, Emma T, Chris H, Chris M, Darrin, Golden and Sue C.  John Walters and Pete Zappa did a great job out in the starters boat helping to get the boats lined up for the starters.

Well done to those who helped out before and after the regatta with boat fixing and picking up or returning of equipment including Glyn, Chris H, Capt Michelle, JW, Helen and Davo.

Of course, a big thanks to the organising committee of Kym, Chris H, Michelle, Helen, Davo and especially to Sue Greene for taking on the huge job of regatta entry co-ordinator.  Sue spent more hours on the phone than she'd care to remember matching crews to coaches and had a big part to play in the success of this event.  Well done also to Chris M and Steve M for coaching 3 and 4 crews respectively.

As mentioned earlier, Catherine and Amanda did a great job up on the start line with Tony, JW and Big D looking after the finish all day and providing the commentary as only they know how.  Sharon W also looked after the learn to row stand for most of the day when she wasn't out coxing.

Finally, a big thanks to Hale school for the loan of five of their boats which makes running the event possible.

There were also plenty of photos taken on the day with a mixture of club member and crew shots which can be viewed here.  Professional photos were also taken of every crew racing on the day and they are available for purchase from the Outdoor Shots website.

Until next year.

Congratulations to the Christ Church first eight for a great win in Saturday's Head of the River.  The result was especially sweet because they were coached once again by ANA's own Laurie Anderson.  This now gives Laurie three wins in four years in the state's most high profile rowing event which is a fantastic achievement.  Congratulations Laurie and to your crew and to everyone who raced on the day.

Full results from the HOTR regatta can be viewed here.

A fantastic performance by ANA rowers at the 2005 nationals with everyone who went across putting in a huge effort and the group coming back with a swag of medals.

Cade was one of the standout rowers at the regatta with a haul of 3 gold (Under 23 lightweight single and double and open lightweight coxless four) and 2 silver (open lightweight eight and youth eight).  Rhys also had a great regatta bringing home 1 gold (U19 coxless quad) and 2 silver (U19 double scull and youth eight).

Our coxes racked up some high profile results and they don't come much bigger than Patrick's gold in WA's Kings Cup winning eight.  Matt picked up a gold for the open men's coxed four and 2 silvers (Open lightweight eight and Youth eight).  The girls also came home with a couple of medals with Alex and Morag picking up bronze in the U19 coxless four, while Vicki picked up several medals from coaching Freedom of the River crews.

Great effort by all ANA crews and their coaches and parents.

Can be found here.

ANA has it's second gold medalist of the 2005 National Championships, with Rhys Grant winning this morning in the J19 Men's coxless quad in a nippy time of 6:23.  Congratulations Rhys.

For all our club members, you'll see some volunteer sheets up in the shed asking for help during the regatta.  If you can spare some time to take either a morning or afternoon shift, please sign up and help out because with 200 people racing throughout the day in approximately 70 races, there's plenty to do.

Last but not least, a note to club members.  Both bays 1 & 2 will be blocked from 8am onwards so unless you're having a very very early training session, this might be a good weekend to skip training and help with the regatta setup instead!!

Captain Michelle has put together some information for crews about what to expect on the day along with details for those who would like to consider recreational or racing membership after the regatta is over.  Please take the time to have a read so that you'll know what to expect and for coaches, pass a copy onto your crews.

There will be plenty of food and drink available for purchase at the regatta, along with a licensed area for shouting your crew a well deserved post race beer.  Make sure you bring along plenty of water to drink on the day as rowing is thirsty work and with any luck, you'll be doing plenty of it.  Sunblock is also a must no matter what the conditions and a first aid post will be available for any medical requirements throughout the day.  If you are in need of medical assistance for any reason, ask the shore marshal to direct you to the first aid post.

There are some shady trees along the river just in front of the shed that will give you a great view of the last 100m of each race and make an excellent place to set up camp.  There’s also a big grassed area if you want to kick the footy around or get a game of cricket going.  However, keep an eye on your watch and know your next race time!  The Club will also set up a large tent for spectators and crews are welcome to set up your own shade cover.

Note:  There will be a crew briefing at 10:15 to explain how the day will be run.  Make sure at least one of your crew is there.  The first race is at 10:30 and all crews should aim to arrive at the regatta no later than 45 mins before your first race to give you plenty of time to setup your spot and get ready.

Congratulations to Cade Zulsdorf on becoming the 2005 national champion in the Men's U23 lightweight single scull.  The result is a fantastic individual achievement for Cade, which will hopefully lead towards Australian representation in the not too distant future.

The nationals are underway and as previously mentioned, ANA has a number of members competing this year.  Click here to go to the Nationals website and follow the progress of our club members.

Club members may have noticed a very sorry looking scull precariously balanced on three trestles on Sunday morning. Catherine Timms had purchased a new racing scull for the upcoming National Rowing Championships at the Sydney International Regatta Centre starting next week. The scull was carefully wrapped for the journey over and strapped onto the ANA trailer ready to be carted to Canning Bridge for transfer to the State trailer. Unfortunately as the trailer was backed back into the ANA shed on Saturday after loading, the end of the boat became looped in one of the scull slings hanging from the shed roof resulting in a devastating and heart wrenching bang as 2.5 metres of the boat promptly snapped off the end.

Whilst a blow for Catherine and those involved, all is not lost. The boat is insured and the damage looks repairable. Tom Prime, the manufacturer has come to the party and will allow Catherine to use another of his boats at the Nationals for demonstration purposes whilst hers is repaired.

Whilst this is an extremely unfortunate event, there are lessons to be learned, most notably for those using roof slings for their boats. These should not be left hanging and should be looped and retied to their highest position whilst boats are not hanging from them.

On a more positive note, the club now has its largest nationals representation for many years with most team members moving pretty well. ANA has ten athletes competing under various combinations with three in state crews.

Jordan Cane

Georgie Dicks

Rhys Grant - State Y8

Alex Hayes

Matt Higgins - cox Kings Cup

Vicki Felles - cox Women's Eight

Morag McCullam

Thom Nelligan

Catherine Timms

Sven Van Oyen

Cade Zulsdorf - State Y8 and possibly Penrith Cup

Good luck to all club members competing at this years Nationals.  The club will be cheering you on all the way from back home.

Results from yesterdays Scotch schoolboys regatta can be found here.

Thanks to some great work by Sue Greene and the organising committee, all our crews are well and truly into the swing of training and looking good out on the water.  However, there's still plenty of work to be done on regatta day to make things run smoothly.  For all our club members, you'll see some volunteer sheets going up in the shed shortly asking for help during the regatta.  If you can spare some time to take either a morning or afternoon shift, please sign up and help out because with 200 people racing throughout the day in approximately 70 races, there's plenty to do.

The new fees for 2005 have been set by the committee.  Take a look at the membership page to find out how much you owe and remember, to qualify for the early payment discount you have to have paid your fees in full by April 1st (no, that's not a joke).  For the racing members, the full list of regattas for 2005 can also be found there.

Full results from yesterday's Wesley school boys regatta can be found here.

At Sunday's AGM, the new committee for 2005 was elected and i'm sure everyone wishes them well for the year ahead.

Captain Michelle Blake
Vice Captain Chris Hayes
President John Westall
Vice President Dave Haines
Treasurer Glyn Heath
Secretary Helen O'Keefe
Assistant Treasurer/Secretary Siok Cheng
Committee Member Sue Carruthers
Committee Member Kym Weirsmith
Committee Member Sue Greene

Check out the Our People page if you want to know more about ANA's 2005 committee members.

If the boatshed appears to be permanently busy at the moment, it's probably because the club has hit it's target of 50 crews for this years Challenge Cup and they're all out on the water getting in their training sessions.  A big thanks should go to Sue Greene who has done a fantastic job of coordinating all of these crews and finding coaches for them and no doubt racking up a huge phone bill in the process !  Well done also to everyone who has agreed to coach a crew as the event couldn't run without your support.

However there is still plenty of work to be done on the actual day of the regatta so if you can, please make some time available on the 13th March to help out with setting up at the start of the day, or packing things up at the finish.  Volunteer sign up sheets will be going up in the shed soon so if you can spare a few hours, your help would be greatly appreciated.

To be held in the boatshed (and not the clubrooms as per usual) on Sunday the 13th February starting at 10am.  All members are encouraged to come along and have a say in how the club is run.

For all Challenge Cup coaches, please take a look a this learn to row document which is designed to give your crews a bit more knowledge about rowing and to de-mystify some of the more confusing commands they will hear while out on the water.  It contains some very helpful diagrams showing the complete rowing stroke as well as a list of commonly used terms and some simple suggestions for making things easier and safer once they're out on the water.

It's definitely worth printing a few copies and handing them out amongst your crew.  Note:  This is a reasonably large document so it will take a short time to fully download.

The entries are starting to come in for this years Challenge Cup, but there's still plenty of spots available.  See above in the Events section to download copies of the poster and flyer if you don't yet have a crew and send them around to your friends and workmates.  If you already have a crew ready to go, you can download a copy of the entry form here.

Congratulations to Cade Zulsdorf, Georgie Dicks and Matt Higgins for their excellent performances at the recent Youth Olympics.

The WA men's team of eight completely dominated the five rowing events in the program taking gold and silver in the men's single and pair, silver in the men's lightweight double, gold in the men's quad, gold in the men's four and gold in the men's eight.  Many of these were by convincing margins.  ANA rower Cade Zulsdorf participated in the lightweight double, men's quad and men's eight bringing home an impressive two gold and one silver medal to add to his growing collection.  Cade has also been invited to Australian selection trials as a result of his efforts. Well done Cade.

The women were not as successful and were out of the medals in all of the small boats but managed to row down NZ by 0.2 sec in their final race in the eight to each bring home a silver.  Congratulations to Georgie Dicks who was part of that crew and brings home her first major medal.

Matt Higgins our illustrious coach and cox also brought home a gold medal as cox of the men's eight.

The Australian Youth Olympic Festival is intended to provide an opportunity for future olympians to gain experience of higher level competition. The rowing program provides opportunity for eight rowers and a cox for both men and women from each main Australian state and NZ to compete in three events over the two days of competition.

Now that we're back into the dryer months, work is moving along steadily on the Champion Lakes regatta complex.  Click here for a look at some latest pictures from the site.

Back for 2005 is the annual ANA Challenge Cup beginners regatta.  The regatta is open to people with little or no previous rowing experience who would like to give rowing a try.  Work, social and sporting groups get together to form crews of four people and are taken through five supervised training sessions, before racing in a knockout style regatta over 500m to be held on Sunday the 13th of March.

The emphasis of this event is definitely on having a good time, doing something different and experiencing racing against other crews.  This year we're aiming for a field of 50 crews with training sessions running from Saturday the 29th of January onwards.  If you'd like to give it a go, don't delay and download the information below.

The club needs as many members as possible to get behind this event to help raise funds for purchasing new equipment.  Have a quick read to learn how you can help to make this event a success and also if possible, print of a copy of the Regatta Poster and put it up on your notice board at work.

Unfortunately, our old message board is no longer but we have found a replacement for the time being.  Click here to see the new board and feel free to leave some comments.

Information for the 2005 Australian Rowing Championships including the event categories and a copy of the entry form can be downloaded here.  Entries close on Monday the 14th February 2005 at 5pm EST.

Congratulations to Cade Zulsdorf, Georgie Dicks and Matt Higgins (cox) for being selected to represent WA in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January. This is a bi-annual event for under 19 athletes intended to showcase up and coming Australian and NZ stars in mainstream Olympic sports.  Several of those from the 2003 festival went on to Olympic representation at Athens.

The regatta will be held on the 20th and 21st of January at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith and the club will be cheering all three of you on from back home.  Good luck.

Back for 2005 is the 11th running of the annual ANA Challenge Cup beginners regatta.  The regatta is open to people with little or no previous rowing experience who would like to give rowing a try.  Work, social and sporting groups get together to form crews of four people and are taken through five supervised training sessions, before racing in a knockout style regatta over 500m which will be held on Sunday the 13th of March.

The emphasis of this event is definitely on having a good time, doing something different and experiencing racing against other crews.  Numbers will be limited to 50 crews so if you'd like to give it a go, don't delay.  Information flyers and posters will be available shortly.

For our club members, with the new year comes new challenges and high on the list is finding the money to pay for another year of equipment purchases.  With that in mind, the 2005 Challenge Cup looms large on the fundraising calendar as our biggest annual event.  We need as many club members as possible to find crews as well as to assist with coaching and helping on regatta day.  Please pitch in and help as we all benefit from the proceeds of this event.  Click here for more details on how you can help out.
