Catch up on what's happening or check out the old news from - 2000,  2001 20022003

The club got to kick up it's heels Saturday night at the 2004 ANA Annual Dinner and a great night was had by all.  Athens silver medalist Glen Loftus was kind enough to come along and give a great speech about his life at ANA before he went on to be a regular member of the Australian lightweight squad for several years and the night was rounded out by a great video put together by Chris Morris of the year that was (and with the perfect ending too Chris !!).

A number of crews took the chance to say thanks to coaches who put in many hours throughout the year and to let them know they'd been appreciated.  The club also handed out it's awards for the year and congratulations to the following winners.

Best Female Sub Junior:         Claire Jansen
Best Male Sub Junior:            Rob Thomas
Best Novice:                          Georgie Dicks
Best Maiden:                         Catherine Timms
Best Veteran:                         Carol Sale
Most Improved:                     Helen O’Keefe
Best Oars Person:                  Reese Grant
Consistency Award:               Cade Zulsdorf
Best Club Person:                  Chris Hayes
Shit Stirrers Award:               John Westall.

All in all it was a great night and thanks to everyone who supported the club by coming.  A huge thank you to Kym and Sue Green for a fantastic job of planning and working hard on the night to make it all happen.  Thanks should also be extended to Leah and Sue Carruthers who found us the venue and entertainment.

There was plenty of photos taken on the night and to check out a few of them, click here. and then follow the link to 2004.

Almost let this one slip by without notice!  We may not have won many championship medals or any of the pennants this year, but we just pipped Bunbury by one half of a point to be awarded Champion Club for 2004.  This award recognises a cocktail of measures including recruitment of new members, membership retention, participation in regattas and regatta management.  What does this mean?  Hopefully a new ergo for members to train even harder on ready for next season - courtesy of Sykes Racing sponsors of this award.

Well done to everyone who braved the regattas this year and to those who coached them.  Congratulations also to Michelle and Chris for bringing order to the chaos.

The full regatta timetable and crew lists are available for download now.

Can be found here

To make life easier for Michelle to post racing information that wont get lost amongst the general chat on the club's message board, a special page has been setup for racing information and notices only.  This is especially relevant to those looking at competing at next years national championships.  Click here to access the new page.  A link will also be placed on the main homepage.

Apologies for the size of the text on the new message board.  I'm trying to find some ways (that we don't have to pay for) of improving it.  Iin the meantime, it'll just be the youngsters reading it and you guys still have good eyes!

Rowing WA's annual general meeting will be held at the Canning clubrooms on Friday the 26th of November commencing at 6.30 pm.  This is when ANA will be announced as the winner of the Champion Club award for 2004, so let's get a few members along to raise the roof and celebrate!

Better late than never, Michelle's roundup of this years State Championships.

Well another season down for ANA Rowing Club. The State Championships this weekend proved to be hard work for all participants with what felt like gale force winds whipping up across the course. Never the less we had a few wins over the two days and a huge congratulation to all crews and individuals.

FM4X- Carol Sale; Robin Smith, Jill Batt and myself
MN4X- Steve Bourne, John Walters, Phil Jurivich and Glyn Heath
MN8+ Steve Rimmer; Tom Cox; Rob Thomas, Nick Laidler; Sean Dee, Joel Phelan, Blake Dalton, Dougall McCallum & Vicky Felles (cox)
FN1X- Robin Smith (twice by the way – Saturday and Sunday)
FN4X+ Helen O’Keefe; Kym Weir-Smith; Robin Smith; Katherine Ostenberg & Vicky Felles (cox)
MN2X- Chris Hayes; Stewart Ridgeway
MSJ2X- Arron Grant; Nick Laidler
FSJ1X- Morag McCallum
FSJ2X- Claire Jansen & Kirsty Reidy-Crofts

Id like to mentioned that above results doesn't in anyway reflect the amount of energy and heart that went into racing in the swill they call the Swan River on the weekend, particularly yesterday. We had very close excruciating second placement for the following crews and many other tussles in the finals throughout the weekend. Congrats again to all and looking forward to next season.

FN4+ Baigent, Green, Osternberg & Weir-Smith
MJ1X- Cade Zulsdorf
MV2X- Glyn Heath & Steve Bourne
MSJ1X- Arron Grant

It was a great atmosphere throughout the two days in the ANA camp with both gaffs & truly gutsy moments. We added 4 further members to the turtle club in the 2 days – Catfish, Ian Hilton, Morag McCallum and a rather spectacular summersault from Claire Jansen that got a round of applause from the crowd. In terms of teamwork I think we surprised and impressed ourselves with the loading and loading efforts of all participants. The loading was completely finished in a record time of ~ one hour – call me silly but maybe it was the food?

Id like to thank the following people: All the trailer towers once again, (Greg Nelligan, Chris Hayes & Tim Roxby); Glyn Heath and Chris Hayes for all the assistance with co-ordination in addition to all last minute fixing throughout the weekend; Jennie Timms for helping with the shore marshalling and sorting out particular vacuous individuals and crews; Dave Haines, Chris Morris & Guy Radford for the BBQ, Kym Wier-Smith for organizing the salads and to the ladies who provided them. Thanks to all the parents and friends for their endless support camp – I was only reminded of the lack of G&T this year – sorry folks my fault! Hell I could of done with some myself. Last but not the least – the patches of sun and rain though out the weekend was warded off with the help of Greg Thomas’s lovely van – good thing too otherwise Georgie would have been even crispier by the end of Sunday. Thanks Greg.

So that’s it folk. Thanks again from me for the fun, sweat & a few tears throughout the season. I've really, really, really enjoyed the screaming and shouting, there can be no doubt I am the ultimate Shed Nazi . I'm glad to see that some of you got in on the act with regard to our rather large bunch of young nightmares. Cheers for that.

Cheers
Michelle

PS I hope to see you all at the Championship Dinner on the 27th November. New Championship winners will be presented with their Championship badges at the dinner in addition to both the formal and fun awards.

PPS We also have the Masters Regatta the weekend before on the 20th November – start promoting to all your friends at other clubs. It is for 27+ but we would like it if some of the younger folks could help out with coxing and co-ordination.

PPPS Further off-season training details will be posted on the notice board along with Summer Busy Bees, which we hope to get some help fixing boats, blades and the facilities. People wanting to learn more about the crafts you row in this would be a good time to pin down Glyn, Steve & Chris.

Rowing WA are looking at ways the current regatta system can be improved.  Suggestions such as should there be less races meaning shorter regattas, should regattas start earlier in the day or should there just be less regatta throughout the season are all ideas being floated.  If you have some thoughts on these ideas or any other suggestions, email Glyn

The ANA Veteran's Sprint Regatta is back with the third running of the event to be held on Saturday the 20th of November.  Races will be run over the 500m course in front of the ANA shed at Bayswater with the usual age categories and boat classes covered to ensure everyone gets in plenty of racing on the day and the best part is, you don't have to be a registered racing member to compete.  This is a great opportunity for recreational members at every club to get out on the water and get into the racing spirit.  After the boats have been put away, the festivities will continue with a lamb on the spit and plenty of drinks to celebrate the days racing.  More info will be available shortly but for early enquiries, email John Westall.

The race times for ANA crews at this weekend's Bunbury regatta can be found here.  Good luck to everyone who's racing.

Good luck to club captain Michelle Blake and Carol Sale who fly out tomorrow to compete at the world rowing masters in Hamburg Germany.  Michelle and Carol will be representing ANA in both singles and the double, as well as teaming up with the two Jenny's from Bunbury for the quad and rowing an eight with members from Swannies.  Good luck gals.  Bring home some gold (and plenty of great stories !!).

All ANA members are welcome to attend the club's annual dinner which will be held on Saturday the 27th of November at the Inglewood Soccer Club.  This is a great chance for everyone to catch up with other members of the club, congratulate those who are successful in the annual awards presentation and generally celebrate the end of another great year of rowing.  Cost is $40 per person and bookings can be made by emailing Kym Weir-SmithSue Green or Michelle Blake.

Congratulations to ex' ANA member Glen Loftus for a fantastic result in winning an Olympic silver medal in the men's lightweight four today.  Glen started out his club rowing career at ANA where his father Roy was a long term member and is a great example of where lots of hard work in the boat can take you.

From the desk of the Captain, a huge thanks to everyone who turned up on both Saturday and Sunday to assist in the running of this event.  There was a great turn out of club members from both the recreational and racing sides, with the ladies and lads out in force either carrying boats or cooking up a storm in the food tent.

As usual, Siok did a fantastic job co-ordinating the catering side of things with another well organised performance that will no doubt net the club quite a bit of profit.  Special mention on the catering side should also go to Leah Nicol, Kym Weir-Smith, Sue Greene, Jill Batt, Dave Shallue and Claire Jansen for their efforts throughout the day.  Thanks also to those boat lifters who were there for the entire day and pulled a double shift to cater for the late arrival of the majority of the Avon fleet (Chris Hayes, Glyn and Ian Smith to name a few.  Apologies to anyone i've forgotten).

This event has become a major fundraiser for the club and will put some much appreciated $$$ in the club so take a bow everyone who came down and helped out.

The Captain's report for August can be viewed here.

Congratulations to Rhys and Phil for their efforts at the recent Worlds Championships in the men's junior quad.  The full crew of Rhys Grant (ANA), Jeremy Ellis (ECU), James Gatti (SRRC), Robert Alderman (UWA) and Coach Phil Jurjevich had great results in their first two races, winning both their heat and semi final.  Unfortunately, the winning form didn't continue through to the final and they missed out on a place on the podium.  None the less, a fantastic effort by the crew with the guys showing they're competitive at the highest level.  The whole club is looking forward to seeing you back there next year.

Excellent turnout by the club with 4 eights and several sculls entered on the day and almost perfect conditions making for a good race.  Plenty of wins also for ANA with Cade taking out the fastest men's scull, Glyn the fastest verteran men's sculls and Helen the fastest novice women's sculler, while the maiden eight took out the fastest women's eight.  great effort by all.

Click here to check out a few photos from today.

Congratulations to both Georgie and Cade for their efforts at the Youth Cup held in Adelaide on the weekend.  Cade adds a gold in both the quad and the double to his growing collection, while Georgie comes home with a bronze from her singles final.

Good luck also to Rhys and Phil who fly out today for the World Junior Championships in Spain.  Get some photos in ANA gear for the famous places competition guys.

Full results for all races can be viewed here.  Once again, this is a big document which will take a minute or two to download over a modem link.

The sponsorship form can be downloaded here and a list is up in the shed for people who are attending for boat usage as well as catering (if you wanted to join in on Siok's famous BBQ breaky). You can go in a crew boat or a single, all is possible as long as the boats are available. Put your crew on the list (we already have two V8+, both female & male). If you have any questions just email Michelle Blake.

ECU Perth Rowing Club will be conducting a leisure row on Sunday the 6th June 2004.  Please note that anyone who is interested in being part of the action must be at the ECU Perth Club rooms by 7:30am that morning.  For complete details please contact Vanessa Grant on 9459 4968.

Courtesy of ex' club member Steve Wiencke, we have been able to secure some photos of the site works happening out at Champion Lakes along with a concept plan covering the whole project.  We've set up a separate page to which we'll be posting all future updates on Champion Lakes along with what we already have and it can be viewed here.  There will also be a link on the homepage

Work out there is moving along at an impressive rate and it's worth taking a quick look at what's been happening.

From the desk of Captain Michelle, here's a quick roundup of the Bunbury weekend.

First up i'd like to thank our long suffering members for putting up with the lack of boats over the weekend, although judging the weather perhaps you didn’t miss them too much. I'd like to also thank Greg Nelligan, John Westall and Chris Hayes for towing the trailers this weekend and to the many who contributed to organizing boats, riggers, races etc.

We had some spectacular wins:
FM1X- (Sale) with a good effort from Catherine (Ossie) Osternberg who also made it to the finals
FN2X- (Barsby, Baigent), Coming through from second in their heat to a very comfortable win in the final.
FN4+ (Drew, Osternberg, Green, Dicks)
FV4+ (Drew, Nicol, Green, Walton)

Id like to congratulate Helen on her very first singles and doubles (extra special) effort.  Georgie put up a great fight in the FN1X- but was unfortunately pipped in the last 50m. The women vets 8+ had a fabulously close run against the practiced Bunbury and Swans crews and unfortunately were beaten on the line by our country cousins. Great race next time girls!!

MSJ1X- (Dalton)
MSJ2X- (Thomas, Phelan)
MO2- (Caporn, Rimmer)
MV2- (Ridgeway, Hayes)
MO4X- (Privilege, Thomas, Caporn, Rimmer)
MO4+ (Nelligan, Platt, Dee, Privilege)

Congrat's to Davotoo on his first regatta singles race with hefty competition against what looked like an extremely practiced Swans sculler. It looked long and strong and the first of many Im sure – great effort!  Special mention to Greg Nelligan and Chris Hayes in their contribution in all the Open events on the weekend – I'm sure an interesting learning curve,  Tom Platt for filling in a spot for the big guys and contributing to their win in the 4+.  The MSJ’s made their first transition into novice level with Blake through to the singles final, was a great effort by all. I 'd also like to personally thank these four for their sportsmanship and all their help throughout the weekend. Ta guys!!

Win of the weekend: Chris and Stu' in their 1st pair outing and Stu’s 2nd ever, stonking home in a very comfortable pace. Great stuff guys!

Cheers
Michelle

For those of you who've volunteered to co-ordinate a month, please check the revised roster.

From the desk of Captain Michelle, take a look at this month's Captain's Report.

Given that the club's members seem to be making it to all parts of the world these days and the message board has at some stage looked like an international travel diary, we think the time is right to kick off the ANA Famous Places and Famous Faces page.

Put simply, we're looking for photos of people wearing ANA clothing in some exotic place, in front of a famous landmark or next to a famous person (no Vicki, it can't be a photo of you standing next to Rhys as he's not that famous - yet).  The only requirement is that it's easily distinguishable you are wearing some sort of ANA clothing so if you're just wearing a cap, get in close.  Rugby tops will no doubt be popular and shots of people wearing zoot suits in places wear it just looks plain silly will be particularly well received !

So, make sure you pack some ANA gear on your next trip and get the ball rolling.  If we get enough entries before the end of the year, we could even get an award going for the best effort each year.  Send your photos to anarowingclub@iinet.net.au and once we get some entries, we'll post them up.

This week, the club said goodbye to one of it's more hard working and popular members in Richard 'Lambsy' Wheatcroft.  Richard, along with his wife Jenny and sons Ben and Alex are making the big move back to England, no doubt brought about by Lambsy's desire to see a Nottingham Forrest game before they get demoted to second division !

Seriously though, Richard has been one of the club's stalwarts for the last five years, organising events such as the hugely successful Sandalford rows as well as many other social events including annual dinners.  He's also managed to find a bit of success on the water in the last couple of seasons, picking up some maiden championships after persevering with a lack of rowing partners for the first year or two.  Jenny has also put in many an hour helping out at regattas over the last few years.

On behalf of the club, we wish Richard, Jenny, Ben and Alex all the best and thank them for the effort they've put into the club.  Keep spreading the word of ANA on the other side of the world and we hope to see you back here one day.

The next boat handling course will be held on Saturday the 22nd of May from 9:30 to 10:30am.  The course is compulsory for all members so if you haven't already done it, now is the time.  The combination to the shed will not be handed out to members who have not completed this course.  Click here for an outline of what will be covered during the course.

For a list of race time for all crews, click here.

Current pennant points are as follows:

ANA 693
BRC 238
CUBC 0
ECUPRC 371
FRC 1308
MURC 308
SRRC 235
UWABC 1133
WARC 593

Or should that be washup ?  With the words "it's not a race, it's an adventure" ringing in their ears, the men's vet eight roared away from the start to their destiny, which lay somewhere under water about 4k's into the race.  Yep, the Perth to Freo aided by a stiff easterly claimed yet another victim and made sure Lamby's last race would be one to remember.  Almost as disappointing was the fact that the mandatory survival ration of a bottle of port had not been slipped into the cox's pocket to cater for such an emergency.

On the plus side, Russell Thomas scorched down the course in his scull to win line honours while the novice women did well to be the third eight across the line and fastest women's novice crew.  Congratulations to everyone who had a go.

The uniform order form can be found on the Membership page under (believe it or not), Uniforms.  There's also a brochure showing what is available, which we hope to get up on the website shortly.  In the meantime, email Sharon Walton or contact her on 0423 433139 for more details.

Racing suits should still be ordered from Simply Oarsome via their website at www.oarsome.com.au

The full timetable for the Geraldton masters commencing Thursday can be downloaded here.

Full times for all crews can be found here.

ANA crews continue to produce some good early season results with a good showing in the Westies 5.5km long distance race held on Saturday.  The race ran from the Maylands dinghy club through to the Westies boatshed, giving everyone a look at a different part of the river for a change.  Disappointingly, numbers were well down  with only crews from ANA, Murdoch and Wests turning out which is a shame given that this is an excellent piece of river to race on (deadly Causeway bridges aside !).

The stand out ANA crew was the mens subjunior quad who, despite being handicapped fairly heavily, came through all of the crews who started in front of them and were only overtaken by the ANA vets quad which took line honours and fastest crew.  The two women's novice fours finished one and two in their category but could've done with a bit more competition.

Well done also to Westies for their hospitality afterwards and for assisting clubs with getting their boats back home.  They also have a new website which can be viewed at www.warowingclub.org

ANA member Rhys Grant has been selected into the Australian Junior quad (all WA athletes) which will train in Perth along with the WJ2-, MJ2X and Australian Olympic Men's 4- before competing in Europe later in the year.  Phil Jurjevich has been appointed assistant to Rhett Ayliff who has responsibility for the quad and the MJ2X.  Jason Lane has responsibility for the FJ2- and Antonio the Olympic 4-.

Well done to both Rhys and Phil on an outstanding achievement.

The code for the shed was changed Sunday so if you can't get in, it means you haven't paid your fees and you need to talk to Siok asap.

In response to several enquiries from club members, the Grading Criteria for club boat usage can be found on the Membership Page under the Boat Allocation and Handling section.  Please take a look so that you are familiar with the levels of boats available within the club and if you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact the club Captain, Michelle Blake.

ANA well and truly cleaned up at Saturday's Guildford head race, with wins to four crews and an early lead in the Pennant points championships.  A strong contingent from UWA also did well on the day, with their junior eight just claiming honours for the fastest crew over the venerable Swannies veteran eight.  ANA crews took out the fastest women's eight, fastest men's four and quad and also the fastest women's quad with the vet/novice/old buggars four just going down to Freo by (allegedly) 30 seconds.

Full times for the 6.5k course are as follows:
Position Time Crew

2 22.32 SRRC mj8+
3 23.31 UWA mm8+

From the desk of Captain Michelle, take a look at this month's Captain's report.

The shed is managing to look pretty good at the moment thanks to the efforts of a few club members.  To try and keep things going, a cleaning roster has been drawn up listing the coordinators for each month.  Take a quick look and volunteer some time to help out.

Fresh from his Head of the River win, congratulations to ANA member Rhys Grant who will be heading across with the WAIS squad for the national U19 trials.  Good luck Rhys.

Photos from this years Challenge Cup can viewed here.

The official results from all races at Saturday's Head of the River regatta along with the Hamer Cup points tally can be found here.  Congratulations to the winning Trinity crew and especially ANA members Thom Nelligan, Rhys Grant, Russell Thomas, Mark and coach Phil Jurevich.

Click here for the March Captain's report.

Results from Saturday's regatta can be downloaded here.

Sunday saw the ninth annual running of the ANA Challenge Cup beginners regatta, which turned out to be a day a great racing and wild weather.  Strong headwinds all day made for slow conditions on the course and certainly rewarded those crews who managed to stay composed in the rough water.

With only 33 crews racing this year, things were slightly less hectic throughout the day although an unwelcome rain squall early in the afternoon did it's best to freeze competitors and club members alike and make a mockery of the litres of sunscreen everyone had slapped on in the morning.  If it wasn't for the fact that the races were running pretty much ontime, you couldn't sworn you were at a Canning Regatta in the middle of winter !

The Men's final came down to a 3 way fight between Easy On The Stroke, Cleansweep and Nevawaz with Easy On The Stroke coached by Leah Nichol taking the honours in a close finish over Cleansweep.  Oarsome Oar Diggers, Cool Rowings and Foxy Foursome contested the Women's final with the Oarsome Oar Diggers looking good all day and having a comfortable win in the final, giving Glyn yet another coaching victory to his name.  Great effort also by Leah to have crews in both the men's and women's finals.

Off the water, there could be no disputing the Crikey Glamour Crew taking the prize as the best dressed crew and also having a few wins to prove they didn't just look good.  For the best crew name, we couldn't go past the most creative use of the word cox (let's face it, it's the fart joke of rowing isn't it !) with Our Cox Is Bigger Than Yours getting the prize.

As always, the event couldn't run without the efforts of all the club members who coached crews and also those who helped out on the day with running the regatta and assisting with the catering.  Like any event the club runs, it will only be as successful as the effort put in by the club in total and it was both reassuring and disappointing to see the same old faces holding down the fort.

Thanks to Catherine and Amanda on the start line; Laurie, Steve Wiencke and Tony at the finish line; Peta for running the raffle; Sharon on tag duty and everyone who worked their butt off throughout the day either as shore marshals, driving speedies or selling food and drink.  Well done also to Chris Morris, Lambsy, Chris Hayes, Steve B, Michelle, Dave and Glyn for their efforts in getting the boats and equipment ready on Saturday and Steve, Dave and Lambsy for returning all the gear Monday morning.

Finally, a big thanks to Hale school for the loan of five of their boats which makes running the event possible.

The race programme for Sunday's Challenge Cup Regatta can be downloaded here.  The programme lists the race times for both the men's and women's events and copies will also be available at the regatta.

There will be a briefing for all crews commencing at 10am sharp.  All crews must have at least one member present so that you know what to expect on the day.  The first race kicks off at 10.30 so as soon as the briefing is over, the crews for the first race will be called.

Make sure you know what time your first race is and have your whole crew ready to go no less than 45mins before your start time.  For more information about how the regatta is run and what to expect on the day, click here.

For all coxes who will be steering on the day, please download and review the instructions for coxes so you know where to line up at the start line and the correct way to get up there.

Just a reminder that there will be food and soft drink available throughout the day as well as a licensed area where alchohol will be onsale.  A first aid post will be located just next to the main boat shed and constantly manned throughout the day.

Good luck to all crews competing !

ANA, in conjunction with Rowing WA will be holding a social row on Sunday the 14th of March.  The row will kick off around 8am and for full details, download the flyer here.

ANA's Challenge Cup regatta will be held this Sunday and the club needs as many volunteers as possible to help run the event on the day.  The event is
one of the major fundraisers for the year and the more hands we have to help out, the easier it will be.

Help is required with setting up tents, the catering area and the finish line shed in the morning along with pulling it all down one the regatta is over.  We will also need people to assist Siok with running the catering through out the day as well as act as shore marshals.

The day will be split into two shifts running from 7:30 in the morning until 12:30 and then from 12:30 through to 5pm.  If you are able to help, please
email anachallengecup@iinet.net.au or write your name on the signup sheet in the boat shed.

Better late than never and they can be downloaded here.

Any crew that has not already submitted their entry form for the Challenge Cup needs to get it in asap.  Either post it to PO Box 6, Bayswater, 6053 or drop it in the suggestion box at the front of the shed.  Coaches also need to be collecting entry fees from their crews and handing the money over to Glyn, Siok, Michelle or Dave.

Can be downloaded here.  Congratulations to Phil and the Trinity boys.  Good to see ANA coaches taking out the first eights in the first two schoolboy regatta of the year.

Congratulations and good luck to the 2004 committee who were elected at last Sunday's AGM.

Entries are starting to roll in for both men's and women's crews but there are still plenty of spots available.  If you don't have a crew yet, get out there and recruit your friends or workmates and get them on the water.  If you don't have a crew but would still like to help out by coaching, please email anachallengecup@iinet.net.au and specify what times (weekdays, weekends) you could take a crew.  We're always in need of coaches to help out.  You don't need to be an expert and it's great fun.

As from tomorrow, there will be four boats available for training crews with a fifth boat to be ready roughly a week after that.  The booking sheets will also be on the pin up board in the shed, so please make use of them and book your boat for every training session.  Over the next few weeks the demand for training spots will be hotting up so to avoid any confusion, do not take a boat out unless you have booked it.

As the club has increased in size over recent years, so to have the responsibilities of it's members.  The club's code of conduct covers key principles for both racing and recreational members and it can be downloaded here.  Please take the time to have a read and if you would like to pass comment on the document, do not hesitate to contact the committee.

You can download the order of events for the Indian Ocean Masters regatta here.

The ANA Rowing Club AGM will be held on Sunday the 8th of February at the ANA clubrooms commencing at 10am.

The entries are starting to come in, but there's still plenty of spots still available for crews in this years Challenge Cup.  Spaces are available for both men's and women's crews so if you haven't organised your crew yet, please get out there and get one.

For those of you who have started coaching are are looking for a few tips, download our easy 5 lesson plan for coaching a Challenge Cup crew.  It's guaranteed to have you winning races in no time !!

Back for 2004 is the tenth running of the annual ANA Challenge Cup beginners regatta.  The regatta is open to people with little or no previous rowing experience who would like to give rowing a try.  Work, social and sporting groups get together to form crews of four people and are taken through five supervised training sessions, before racing in a knockout style regatta over 500m to be held on Sunday the 7th of March.

The emphasis of this event is definitely on having a good time, doing something different and experiencing racing against other crews.  Last year there were over 50 crews and 200 competitors so if you'd like to give it a go, don't delay.  You can download the information flyer for full details of the event and also the official regatta entry form.  Training sessions run from Saturday the 24th of January onwards.

For our club members, with the new year comes new challenges and high on the list is finding the money to pay for another big year of equipment purchases.  With that in mind, the 2004 Challenge Cup looms large on the fundraising calendar as our biggest annual event.  We need as many club members as possible to find crews as well as to assist with coaching and helping on regatta day.  Please pitch in and help as we all benefit from the proceeds of this event.  Click here for more details on how you can help out.
