Membership ANA has a diverse membership, ranging in age from 14 to 75, from people who have been rowing for 40 years to those who have just learnt. We have recreational members who row once a month to elite international athletes who train every day. ANA welcomes all members, regardless of age, experience and fitness level. There are some basic limits, imposed by the equipment we use. We recommend that members are older than 12 years of age and weigh less than 125kg. If you would like to have a go at rowing, please got to our Learn-to-row section. If you have rowed previously and would like to join up, or simply know more about the club, most information you need should be available on this website. For any further queries, please contact the Captain. We have also had a number of visitors from other clubs interstate and overseas and would love to help you experience our beautiful part of the Swan River. Please contact the Captain. if you will be visiting Perth and would like to come out for a row.

Equipment ANA has one of the largest and most diverse boat fleets in Western Australia. Our fleet consists of over 70 boats, lots of pairs of oars, 3 dinghies and 2 boat trailers. The fleet has been built up from scratch since our original boatshed burnt down in 1961. Almost all of our boats have been purchased second hand and have been purchased to fill a specific need within the club. Besides the obvious different sizes of boats, boats are also classified into different weight categories and into different grades based on how hard the boat is to row and how light and fragile it is. To book a boat with a teal or dark blue dot a boat request form must be sent to the captain. IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT BOATS
DO NOT row a dark blue dot boat if you have not received express permission from the captain. To book a boat with a teal or dark blue dot a boat request form must be sent to the captain.

Boats & Grading To book a boat with a teal or dark blue dot a Click on the image to get details of the boat and click here to understand the dot grading system
The only way to row really. Hard to master, wonderful when right. Single sculls available
What do the coloured dots mean?
Great to row and quite a good way to get better at sculling by rowing with people better than yourself, if they'll put up with you! Two people with one sweep oar each. Bloody hard to balance, steer and easy to turn over! Good fun though! Double sculls available
What do the coloured dots mean?
The best boat to row. Great to improve sculling. Available coxed and uncoxed. Good boat to learn how to sweep row. Available coxed or uncoxed. Quads/fours available
What do the coloured dots mean?
The biggest and fastest. Fantastic when rowed well. Truly horrid when not!
ANA Mens B Eight - Australasian Master Games 2007 - Silver Medalists
What do the coloured dots mean?
All rowing equipment is divided into 5 grades. Higher graded boats and oars are generally very light, stiff and fragile. This makes the boats unstable and difficult to balance and row. Because the oars are stiff, they can contribute to injuries in inexperienced, unfit or young rowers due to poor technique or incorrect setup in the boat. The equipment is also very easy to break and expensive to fix. Lower graded boats and oars are heavier but much more robust. The boats are generally wider so they are more stable in the water and easier to row. The materials and construction of oars and particularly boats are different so they are much more resistant to damage by impact or incorrect handling. This makes them particularly suitable for inexperienced rowers.
